Welcome! Here you’ll find the list of our products we’re offering for sale – kits, guitars, accessories, and anything else we come up with. And as a part of our corporate “be something good in the world” philosophy, 10% of all OpenChord.org’s profits go to charity. Right now, the charity we’re donating to is Child’s Play, a fantastic charity that buys and distributes toys to children’s hospitals.
First Run Guitar Controller Kits
We’re happy to announce that we’re now offering a kit for sale! The kit contains everything you’ll need to transform your own guitar into a guitar controller for PC, Wii and PlayStation 3, letting you play Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or Frets on Fire. It does require some basic soldering, but the chip comes loaded with all the code you need to hook it up to whatever system you’re playing on, and it’s easily re-programmable via USB. It does not come with any wires, although we will give you a nice big strip of metal tape.
We’re offering the Wii-enabled kits for $44, which includes a 10 ft. long USB cable. If you’ve already got a long enough USB A to B cable (like a UBS printer’s cable), or don’t care about Wii connectivity, you’ve got the option to buy kits without the extra cables too – or you could even buy a kit with just a USB jack for only 35 bucks!
Safety Note: NEVER plug in the device to both a USB port and a Wiimote at the same time – It could/probably will damage the batteries in your Wiimote, if not worse. So don’t do it!
Shipping is a flat $5, anywhere in the world right now, as long as mail can get there. Note that international customers will be responsible for any customs duties or tariffs – we’d love to be able to take care of it on our side, but we have no way to calculate what they might be ahead of time, so we’re not able to.
Bare Bones Parts
Already have components lying around? Have your own AVR Programmer and ATMega chips? Just want a pre-programmed chip mess around with? We’re also more than happy to sell you a preprogrammed kit or a blank circuit board, or both! This way, you save big if you’ve already got parts lying around. The chip has a USB bootloader already programmed into it, so you can update the code without any special hardware.
Shipping starts at a dollar, and goes up by 25 cents for each additional chip or board, or by $1.25 for each cord, since we can generally ship the boards and chips as letters, but the cords are too thick, so they get charged as packages sometimes.
Circuit Board – $5
Pre-Programmed ATmega328p – $5
Wiimote Extension Cable – $5
10 Foot USB A to B Cable – $4
The V1 Guitar Pre-orders
We’re at the point where we’re also on the cusp of being able to sell complete guitars. We’ll be selling the guitars for around $180, but of course, since we don’t have any yet, we’re asking for a $20, completely refundable deposit in order to get some sort of cash flow to get some FCC testing done (our final step!). Depending on how things go at PAX, we’ll have guitars ready for sale in April, or we won’t be a company anymore, so yeah.
